This obelisk was commissioned by Queen Hatshepsut but due to the fact that it had a crack in it was never finished. We then proceed to the Old Aswan Dam for a motor boat excursion to the fabulous Temple of Isis at Philae Island. An unforgettable day. Day Tour 2: Elephantine Island & The Old Nilometer & Agha Khan Mausoleum. This is an excursion by sailing boat to Elephantine Island - one of the most ancient sites in Egypt with artifacts dating back to pre-dynastic periods, the old kingdom, the middle kingdom and the new kingdom. Day Tour 3: Kalabsha Temple Drive to the Temple of Kalabsha which has been dismantled and re-erected on a hill near the High Dam site on the Western Bank. This was originally built by Tutmosis III and Amenophis II at Kalabsha. The temple was restored during the Roman Conquest. Day Tour 4: Elephantine & Kitchener Islands Take an idyllic trip by felucca sailing around the Elephantine and Kitchener Islands and view the Agha Khan Mausoleum. Day Tour 5: Kom Ombo & Edfu Leave the hotel by private car reaching Kom Ombo after one hour. We drive on the Upper Egypt Corniche and across the countryside to visit the temple of Kom Ombo which stands on high ground overlooking the River Nile. Since this bend in the Nile where Kom Ombo is situated was a favored place for crocodiles to bask in the sun and threaten locals thus it was natural that the temple would be dedicated to Sobek the Crocodile god. The thought behind this was that by honouring Sobek the locals would be free from attacks. It is unusual to have a double dedication for a temple as Kom Ombo also honours Harories - a form of the falcon-headed god - Horus. The right side is dedicated to Sobek and the left side to Harories "Horus the younger". The excursion then continues by car to Edfu. We cross the Nile and then proceed by horse drawn carriage to visit the majestic temple dedicated to Horus. The Temple of Horus at Edfu is considered to be the best preserved cult temple in Egypt. The Temple of Edfu is very dramatic. It is dedicated to Horus. Horus was the god of the sky whose eyes were the sun and the moon. He became equated with the king and therefore the king was Horus manifest. Day Tour 6: Abu Simbel Temple The colossal Temple of Abu Simbel built by Ramses ll (XIX Dynasty) and lately saved from the inundation of the Nile waters when Lake Nasser was created, is among the glories of ancient Egyptian monuments. The temples were cut into the rock cliff and represents the deities to which each was dedicated. These are carved on its huge facade. Nearby, also saved, lies the small temple of the king's wife, Nefetari, and is dedicated to the goddess Hathor. This excursion can be undertaken by plane or bus.
