Edfu and Kom Ombo temples
Travel by car on the east side of the Nile to Edfu Temple (also known as the Temple of Horus in Edfu). It is considered to be the best preserved cult temple in Egypt. The Temple of Edfu is very dramatic and is dedicated to Horus. Horus was the god of the sky whose eyes were the sun and the moon. He became equated with the king and therefore the king was Horus manifest.
From Edfu we proceed to Kom Ombo where there is the double temple dedicated to Horus and Sobek. Since the bend in the Nile, where Kom Ombo is situated, was a favoured place for crocodiles to bask in the sun and threaten locals thus it was natural that the temple would be dedicated to Sobek - the crocodile god. The reasoning being that by honouring Sobek they would be safe from attacks. Having a double dedication it also honours Haroeris - a form of the falcon-headed god Horus. The right side of the temple is dedicated to Sobek and the left side dedicated to Haroeris "the good doctor".
