The Ramesseum is the memorial temple (or mortuary temple) of Pharaoh Ramses II located in the Theban necropolis in Upper Egypt, across the River Nile from Luxor. It was originally called 'The House of a Million Years' and supposedly united Thebes with the domain of Amon. It is believed that the construction of this edifice took 20 years beginning just after the commencement of the reign of Rameses.
